A joyful celebration of the season, with virtuoso voices and instruments performing magnificent Italian works of the Renaissance and early Baroque. Music ranging from intimate simplicity to sumptuous splendor including sacred songs of devotion, instrumental fantasias, and resplendent choral masterpieces of Venice’s Golden Age. Music of Monteverdi, Gabrieli, Cipriano, Marenzio and many more performed by voices, cornetto, viola da gamba, harp, brass and organ. A Camerata premiere not be missed!

La liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina ("The Liberation of Ruggiero from the island of Alcina") is a comic opera in four scenes by Francesca Caccini, first performed 3 February 1625 at the Villa di Poggio Imperiale in Florence, with a libretto by Ferdinando Saracinelli, based on Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso. It is the first opera written by a woman, and was long considered to be the first Italian opera to be performed outside of Italy. It is the only opera by Francesca Caccini to survive.

The first two polyphonic Requiem masses in history! Two masterpieces for the deep voices of Diabolus in musica. 

More in French: Ces deux Requiem développent des sonorités profondes grâce à une utilisation stupéfiante et inédite des registres graves, et des audaces musicales peu communes (ambitus, jeux rythmiques, contrastes saisissants, expressionnismes inhabituels…). Ockeghem et La Rue font ici preuve d’une maîtrise et d’une virtuosité étonnantes, toujours au service de l’émotion.

L’ensemble Diabolus in Musica est heureux de faire revivre ces deux œuvres emblématiques et visionnaires, de deux compositeurs majeurs de l’automne du Moyen Âge. L’équipe de 7 chanteurs y montrera tous ses talents de polyphonistes acquis au cours de longues années de pratique commune de ces répertoires magnifiques.
