Paul Kieffer is a lutenist and specialist of old plucked instruments. As a chamber musician and multi instrumentalist his concert activities have taken him across all of Europe, and he appears on over a dozen CDs. As a soloist, his CD of Italian lute music released in 2017 on Arcana (Outhere Music) received international critical acclaim from experts in the lute world, and his debut solo CD dedicated to the 16th-century lutenist Jacob Polonois was nominated for best CD of 2016 in the category of early music by the International Classical Music Awards. He studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, where he performed his diploma concert and received an MA with honours. His musicological activity is focused on the lute and on ancient musical traditions, and his writing appears in publications of the Lute Society (UK) and Oxford University Press.
